About Me & My Lens
Welcome. I’ve been speaking and writing about disruption for over 25 years. I’m GenX, which means I am the last generation to begin work before the mass-market adoption of the internet and the first generation to understand the impact of mobile phones on business, marketing and daily life.
I’ve lived in a pre-social media world and watched as traditional media and advertising models were replaced. I’ve seen fads repeated and reinvented as each generation discovers how technology can be made relevant to old and new audiences and customers.
I’m an edge case. Born in Australia, I’ve worked for global FMCG giants and bootstrapped start-ups. I’ve worked in the developed markets of the UK and USA and emerging markets in S.E. Asia and the Middle East. I’m not a ‘techie’ so my lens is not that of a coder sitting in Silicon Valley.
I’ve started my own businesses. I’ve been too early, too late and I’ve been side-swiped by not planning for the potential disruption caused by new technologies and trends.
My super-power is being able to distil complicated concepts into simple language to allow business leaders and decision makers to make informed choices.
What I Write About
My focus is understanding the impact of technology on marketing. When I say Marketing, I mean Marketing with a capital M, or what I like to call Full-Stack Marketing - the fundamental pillars of business: product, price, place, promotion and… Promise.
Each new potentially disruptive technology has an impact on each one of these areas of a business. From Blockchain to 5G, From IoT to the reality continuum, from sustainable fuel and materials to the future of work.
